Music Video Construction

This is what the music video looked like during construction, we had multiple layers and to have the music and the footage playing at the same time. We always had extra footage placed onto the timeline so that it was easy to locate and add onto the real thing. by doing this it eliminated any waste of time finding footage from the inital bin of all the footage. 
This is evidence of the filters and editing techniques page which is where we went to add editing aspects such as the pace of the footage and the gradual blur tool.

Performers and Location Changes

We decided to change one of our performers, Danny to Justin. We did this as his performance was not very good.

Locations

We are no longer shooting in the bedroom for the narrative and are filming in the media photography studio instead, we did this to get better lighting. We are going to bring our own props to try and make it look like a bedroom. such as chairs and a desk.

also we are going to be filming in another location for Katie and Patryk, Feethams Car Park. This is located in Darlington in tow, therefore it should be easy to access.

I think that the shoot went well. The only issue is that we forgot to bring our speaker, this meant that because of the cars going by we and the performer could not hear the song to perform to. This resulted in the performer wearing headphones. This will be a problem when it comes to editing as it will be harder to sync up the music with the performance as the performer wasn't actually saying the lyrics. Also some of the shots might be too dark to see. But i think we got some good shots.

We also got some good shots for the digipak.

Vlog 2

The shoot went ok, but most of the filming in the bedroom was low light, therefore was not as good enough quality. the shots of south park looked okay. we didn't have time to do a test shot of this location, before filming so we may need to re-shoot. Also the performer wasn't very good so we might have to find a different performer all together.

Draft Feedback

Teacher Feedback 

The main feedback from our teacher was that the digipak was too dark and there was not a variety of images and one of the panels was too hard to read. For the website, the background image needed changing as it wasn't our own image it was a standard image that came from wix.com which did not match our genre. We were also missing a page. For the video quality of some shots wasn't great and didn't understand the narrative. There was continuity issues as shots of narrative, Katie and rapping didn't work well together. 

Student Feedback 

The main criticisms were about the images used in the digipak as they were too dark to be seen and that they needed better colours to be used. For the music video was the lip syncing did not match the music which ruined the performance, and we needed a better variety of shots in different locations. The narrative was also not very clear as well. The website needed more images and more text as it was bare.   

To improve we would need to re-shoot for all products and redesign the digipak and website to better match the products and look more professional. we need to re-think on how to film the narrative in a way that people can easily tell what is happening.

We chose Patryk as you can see here he can rap and lip sync without difficulty. Although within this music video e is rapping in polish he is also fluent in English so rapping the song we have chosen will not be a problem. We have decided that he will be perfect for our music video.

Vlog 1

Within this vlog we were recording the test shots of our main performer Patryk. we came across some problems as partyk didnt know the lyrics to the song we chose for our video. This was a problem as we may have wanted to use the footage for our main video. we ended up using a different song for him to rap to, this ended up to being another Eminem song "Love The Way You Lie" he knew the lyrics to this song, which made it a perfect match for our test footage. throughout this day we learnt how to construct and use things such as the track and also the fig rig which was extremely helpful.

These are the test shots of Katie lip syncing to the music, we needed to test out camera angles, locations and lighting within these shots and also what kind of performer she was. This is also going to be included within her casting as we needed evidence that she could lip sync to the standard we wanted.

Pitch Feedback and Reflection

We agree to all of the feedback we are given. We need to do test shots of locations we are going to do, as well as testing the powder paint in the location we are shooting in, to ensure it works. We also need to ensure that we create a narrative that matches the meaning and lyrics of the song, but isn't too complicated to film. We then need to find another performer for that narrative. Also we will need to create a social media account for the artist which we can embed into the blog. We need to include a variety of locations that contrast each other so we are able to create salt and pepper moments in the music video.

Synopsis Of Idea

This song is about inspiration, to never give up on your dreams. Eminem is reflecting on his music career, and wondering if he can write new, fresh music again as he thinks he’s running out of emotional experiences to draw from. However during the chorus “guts over fear” is repeated suggesting he should continue no matter what happens. Towards the end of the song Eminem is speaking out to his fans and telling them to follow their dreams like he did.

The back cover of To Pimp a Butterfly shows the tracks listed in Kendrick's handwriting which exaggerates to the audience that it his own genius creation. Also, the simple black on white colouring gives it a sense of continuity.

Front Cover

 This is a medium shot of drake sat down with gold chains on. He is also not looking directly at the camera. The only piece of text on this front cover is the name of the album which is Take Care. This image sets the theme for the album cover as it seems to be set in a wealthy mansion.

Inner Digipak Panel

 This shot is a close up of Drake lighting up a cigar. the fact that he is smoking a cigar presents the idea that he has a 'Bad boy image' which could relate to his music and suggest the genre of Rap and R&B. This connects to the overall theme of it being set in a wealthy mansion.

Further Inside The Digipak

This page highlights the song names and also underneath them it has a brief description of the people who played a part in the production of the song. This appears more beneficial to the business side of the album rather than the entertainment of the audience. The background image again fits in with the wealthy mansion setting.

Dedications Page

This particular part of the digipak is a whole page dedicated to all the people that have supported him through his journey up the music food chain. The background image is a close up of an owl ornament. This owl has two meanings as it suggests that Drake is a wise character but it is also the symbol of Drakes very own record label OVOXO. 

Poster Page 

This page i feel outlines Drakes superstar persona as the poster is intended to be hung up in his fans bedroom wall whilst listening to his music. The ratio between text and image is that there are more images, this suggests that due to his fame, wealth and success, his images can do the talking.

End Credits

You could say that this credits page acts like a filler for the digipak as this is again here purely for business purposes. It also gives chance again for Drake to shine light on the people who contributed to the creation of this album.

Back Cover

The back cover has a list of all the track titles which is in gold with the black background which keeps a good consistency and also fits in with the whole theme of the digipak. The sponsors at the bottom of the digipak highlights Drakes record label and further promotes it.
